Losing Weight is Simple, But Not Easy

So what do I mean by this.  As I spend time with clients those who struggle the most can't quite get over their personal "hump".  Each person has this hump.  There is some reason that is blocking your progress.

The mechanics of losing weight are pretty simple.  Train smart on a consistent basis, and your body will respond by getting lean.  It's all the other junk that gets in the way.

So how do were clear that junk?

I would first ask yourself "what am I doing this for?"  You must have a specific reason for training and eating right.  Is it that you want to be more active with your children?  Has your doctor told you that if you don't reduce your weight, that he or she will have to put you on medications?  If you were in better shape, would more people be attracted to you? (I know this may be politically incorrect, but unfortunately we ARE judged by how we look.

So once you get your purpose in mind, then you'll have to trust me as your trainer.  When I tell you to do something, you had better follow through 100%.  That is if you want the best results.  If what you have been doing up to now isn't working, then you had better change your path.

How Do You Want to Be Remembered?

After having read Seth Godin's blog today, it go me to thinking about how I want to be remembered.  Here's a portion of the email I sent him.  You may want to ask yourself how you want to be remembered.  If you feel comfortable, please share with us in the "comment" section or email me directly.

"Have you ever thought of how you want to be remembered?

As I get older, 41, it made me think how would I want to be remembered.  The main thoughts that come to my mind are that I want my kids to remember that I was there for them.  When they looked out while performing at their school plays, I was there.  When they wanted a book read or someone to play with, I was there.  They saw a dad who gave hugs, and always treated their mom with respect.  He encouraged his kids and his wife to go for their dreams.

For my clients...to know that I really listened to their hurts and their desires to be more fit, and that I did whatever I could to help them reach their goals to be "happy"."

Christmas...A Season for Excuses

I've got to get this off my chest.  I've been a a trainer for over 12 years now and I've heard a lot of excuses.  Now that Christmas time and the holidays are approaching the excuses seem to be on the increase.

I hear this each year, "I'll begin eating well when the New Year comes", but in the meantime I'm going to gorge on sweets, rich food, and excess alcohol.

I just don't get it.  Why not eat in moderation, and train in moderation during the holidays.  You'll at least stay within reach of your current weight.

Instead people will go overboard, then with their heavier bodies, set unrealistic goals on Jan. 1st, and by Jan 15th be ready to give up.

Results take hard work and consistency.  You body doesn't realize that it's the holiday time of year.  This year give yourself a better present.  Keep up your training so when everyone else is setting goals for the New Year, you already have a head start.

A Thoughtful Gift for any Athlete

I just received a Christmas email from Road ID.  Last year I purchased ID "dog tags" for myself and everyone in my family.

I do a lot of training outside.  I may be running in the streets, or jogging on the trails in my nearby mountains.  Either way, my wife feels more secure knowing that I will be wearing my ID tags.

Many years ago when I was working as a personal trainer at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles we hosted a bunch of the athletes who were competing in the LA marathon. I had the opportunity to speak at length with one of the wheelchair athletes.  She told me of how she was an avid bicyclist in her home country of Australia and was hit by an 18-wheeler.  The truck hit her and kept on going.  She was laying on the side of the road, and luckily help came by.

For those of us who exercise in the street, I encourage you to take a look at the ID products that Road ID offers.  It just may save your life.
